stoning/ rajm

some rumor - hadiths ?**

Background: Some think that 'stoning to death' is a punishment laid out in The Quran or promoted by Islam for acts such as adultery.
The Quran never sanctions stoning to death as a punishment for anyone. In fact, the only times it is mentioned in The Quran is as a threat to believers from non-believers:
11:91, 18:20, 19:46, 36:18, 44:20, 26:116
Also, the misconception of 'stoning to death' as punishment for adultery is disproved by The Quran as the punishment for proven adultery are lashes [24:2]. Furthermore, this punishment is halved for formerly slave woman due to their past circumstance [4:25]. Since half 'stoning to death' is not possible, this indicates 'stoning to death' for adultery is not permitted.
Interestingly, in many popular translations of The Quran, for verse 24:3 they state an adulterer can only marry another adulterer, but if stoning to death for adultery was a punishment, this translation would be unecessary and illogical.
Stoning to death as a punishment for adultery is from traditional narrations (called "hadith") attributed to the prophet Muhammad, as recorded by later generations.

Misconceptions About Islam.com

1. It is not in Qur’an to stone the adulterer. However, the concept of stoning and its derivatives in Qur’an came in the form of infidels’ threatening of believers and prophets (Hud 91, Miriam 46, Dukhan 20, Yassine 18, Kahf 20, Shua’ra 116). The stoning punishment was found in the contemporary Torah. The Moslems were affected by that and adopted this punishment for married adulterers. This is pure forging as far as Islam is concerned.
2. The punishment of adultery in Qur’an revealed as follows: The adulterers, in case they are caught, shall be flogged 100 lashes in front of crowd of people. The verse Al-Noor, The Light, started with this unique epilogue:” A verse, we revealed and enforced. We revealed in it clear and confirmed verses, so you may realize them”. Then Allah, almighty, immediately said:” The adulterers, male and female, shall be flogged one hundred lashes. Never feel mercy with them in the cause of Allah religion if you believe in Allah and the hereafter. Also, a flock of believers shall witness their punishment

The Stoning Myth**

‘O My Devotees, who have committed excesses against their own selves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Surely, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed He is the most Forgiving, the Merciful’ (Quran 39:54).
We then learn ‘And the recompense of evil is punishment like it, but whoever forgives and amends, he shall have his reward from Allah; surely He does not love the unjust’ (42.40).
A few more examples of forgiveness and mercy from Quran:
"Show forgiveness, enjoin what is good, and turn away from the ignorant." Quran 7:199
"The believers are those who spend in charity during ease and hardship and who restrain their anger and pardon the people, for Allah loves the doers of good."Surah Ali Imran 3:134
"Let them pardon and overlook. Would you not love for Allah to forgive you? Allah is Forgiving and Merciful." Surah An-Nur 24:22
Say to those who believe that they should forgive those who expect not the days of Allah, as it is for Him to recompense people for what they have earned." Surah Al-Jathiyah 45:14
"Verily, the Hour is coming, so forgive them with gracious forgiveness." Al-Hijr 15:85
"Whoever is patient and forgives, verily, that is among the matters of steadfast determination." Surah Ash-Shura 42:43
According to hadith, Mohammed (pbuh) said: Be merciful to others and you will receive mercy. Forgive others and Allah will forgive you.Source: Musnad Ahmad 7001, Grade: Sahih
Life is nothing but a test. However, the actual test is different for each individual.
Everyday people get tested with different challenges like poverty, illness, loss of the loved ones, wealth, dealing with other people, etc. God also allowed for injustice to take place in this world as a part of this test.
Furthermore, every person has both the good and the bad in him/her. Suppressing the bad and inciting the good isn't always easy. Hence, every person must struggle both internally and externally to be good. We all make mistakes along the way. We all sin. Therefore, we are all sinners. However, for as long as we are alive, we can repent and ask God for forgiveness. We can always start over.
It is never too late to start striving to be good, just, compassionate, humble, honest, friendly, caring and helpful to the needy, to start treating others with respect and the way we would want to be treated. That’s why God keeps us all alive including those who are evil.
When we die, the test is over. God promised that at the Day of Judgment there will be absolutely no injustice. We will be rewarded according to our deeds and our intentions. God will forgive many sinners but some people are beyond forgiveness. They will be sent to Hell.
Therefore, in conclusion, God's forgiveness and mercy will be best demonstrated on the Day of Judgement.
